Business Park Fill - Cairns International Airport

Sited on mangroves within land owned by Cairns Port Authority this commercial subdivision was constructed in a staged manner over 2½ years as the mangroves were initially cleared then a rock bridging mattress constructed over the marine mud, followed by 100,000m3 of high quality imported fill placed and compacted to surcharge the area prior to the construction of the actual subdivision itself.

Future Apron and Taxiways Preparatory Works – Cairns International Airport

$3 million relocation of significant services including high voltage power, 800pair pressurised Telstra copper cable, and optic fibre followed by importation of 30,000m3 of high quality fill for the surcharging of an area in preparation of the subsequent construction of Apron Bays 9-13 and Taxiways.

Apron Bays 9 – 13 and Taxiways

$12 million construction of 5 new high strength Apron parking bays and taxiways for Cairns International Airport. The pavement was constructed from high quality gravels up to 800mm thick pugged with cement on site and placed and compacted to extremely tight tolerances. The pavement was surfaced by 2.5 million interlocking concrete block pavers supplied and laid by specialist subcontractor Hanson.
